Come Yowith-me

If you went to the Louvre and saw a great work of art, would the face of the artist enter your mind? Do you imagine an author’s day after reading a touching poem? When eating delicious food how often are we acknowledging those who have created it? Maybe you have at that fancy restaurant with a celebrity chef, but not every meal is like that.

Even ones following the most monotonous and strict recipe are actively participating in the art of creation. The reader might scoff at the suggestion that fast food burgers could be considered art, however it is the author’s opinion that anything created by humans has some amount of individuality impressed upon it. This amount may be miniscule, but the expression of individuality through a medium is creativity, and therefore by extension: art.

Have you ever considered the teenager who made your quarter-pounder with cheese? What thoughts did he have as those pickle slices were placed on the designated amount of mustard and tomato sauce? Did he feel a creative sense of artistry on your particular burger and change things up ever so slightly? A small act of rebellion in putting slightly more onions than in the previous burger. Did an image of the girl he was staring at in the classroom come to his mind? Did he picture the length of her hair against the back of her school uniform as the sun shone in from thee window?

If food can be a reflection of individuality, cooking for others is sharing a part of one’s self. Offering personal experience on a plate, seasoned with past guilt, hatred and love. To what extent is the creator reflected in the bowl?

Come Yowith-me intends to explore this question. We have set out a personal goal for ourselves to cook and impress. Inspired by the hit televesion series of a similar name, 5 contestants based in Sydney will host dinner parties cooking three course meals. By asking contestants to cook and present their best, our production team will be attempt to peer within their soul.

The Yowiehub website will feature reviews and play by plays of each contestants dinner, with the final winner receiving a prize (yet to be decided). In order to prevent animosity, scoring will be redacted with the best chef being revealed through democratic post. A preference voting system will be implemented supervised by members of the AEC.

Amongst all forms of art, cookery emphasises consumption more so than the rest.
