Level 30 Board Room

‘As you will see in the following slide, we were able to reach out to over 120 members in the community, and for me at least this is really what its all about, giving back to…’ I looked out of into an ocean of grey clouds through the window. We were on level 30 for a special 3 hour long meeting on the new ‘community legends’ outreach program. Slide 17 out of 143. Surely some of those slides would be for the bibliography or questions. Unlike the offices below, the boardrooms on level 30 smelled clean and faintly perfumed, like a hotel lobby. There weren’t enough chairs for everyone so I stood up the back, leaning against the tall glass window. It was cool to the touch. The only thing I felt in thee room. I saw the wind moving, but could feel nothing inside. The air conditioning vents sang softly. I found their tune a lot more pleasant than the voice of the presenter. My feet hurt. Slide 18 out of 143.

Rain pooled in the upturned umbrella left on the street.

A pillar of light appeared

between the buildings.

hiding in the grey

My eyes sunk forward.

They began to merge

I have just one

I looked out of the window and saw the rain clouds coming in. ‘By slide 24 it will be raining’ I predicted.

By slide 27 it will be sunny again.

By slide 33 I will forget the world outside.

By slide 42 I will fall in love.

By slide 53 I will be divorced.

By slide 90 I will retire.

By slide 91 I will die.

It was a pleasant spring day in the industrial district. Cars rushed by as I walked on the unmaintained sidewalk. The air was cool but the sun felt harsh. The only green visible was of the tool wholesaler’s sign. My wife was looking at antiques at some warehouse in the area. After two hours I chose to walk around the area searching for a drink. Intermission slide.

It was the first humid day of the year. The air had a wet smell on the walk into the office. Slide 1 out of 143.
